Why we're building this

Independent and small-group physician practices have spent years choosing between EHRs that are affordable but thin, or capable but closed. Survey data backs up what a lot of practices already feel: dissatisfaction with the current generation of EHR software is widespread, and switching is common enough to be a trend, not an edge case — yet most practices that would switch don't, because the cost and disruption of leaving is worse than the software they're unhappy with.

Southwest EMR is an early-stage effort to build a general/multi-specialty EMR and revenue cycle platform that treats a few things as non-negotiable from day one: a certified API and patient data access that are never gated behind a pricing tier, a real revenue cycle rather than a licensing wrapper around one, and migration tooling that assumes you might leave someday — so leaving isn't the hardest part of being our customer.

We're not yet ONC-certified, we don't yet have signed BAAs with customers, and we're building specialty modules alongside the core platform rather than after it. We'd rather be plain about that stage than dress it up — see Security & certification for the specifics.
